More Than Eight Months Without Her Husband

When Anna’s husband was detained by ICE, one detention changed the life of an entire family.

Anna is a 28-year-old mother, immigrant, and recent college graduate. For the past eight months, her husband has been detained at Moshannon Valley Detention Center.

Before his detention, Anna describes her husband as the person their family depended on. He worked, supported their household, and helped care for their young son while Anna pursued her education. Then, suddenly, Anna was doing it alone.

While her husband remained in detention, Anna continued raising their one-year-old son, attending college full-time, navigating her husband’s legal case, and trying to keep up with rent, utilities, legal fees, and everyday expenses. Their savings went toward trying to bring him home.

And still, Anna kept going.

In May 2026, amid everything her family was experiencing, she graduated with honors. Her husband’s detention continues. His family has pursued multiple legal avenues seeking his release, and an appeal was filed with the Board of Immigration Appeals in July.

Anna chose to share her story with Frontline DIGNITY because she wants people to understand what immigration detention can mean for the families left behind.
