PITTSBURGH, PA — December 17, 2025 — Frontline DIGNITY responded earlier today to a reported immigration enforcement action in Mt. Washington, in which a local resident was violently detained by ICE agents. Frontline DIGNITY is a Pittsburgh-based rapid response initiative focused on protecting all immigrant communities with dignity-driven practices.
According to multiple witnesses, at around 8 AM, an individual was brutally assaulted and pepper-sprayed by ICE agents, with agents throwing repeated punches at the victim. The victim’s truck window was also smashed. Neighbors attempted to assist those in medical distress from the pepper spray, but agents prevented them from providing aid for the victim for at least 20 minutes. Agents detained the individual and he is now in ICE custody.
“The graphic brutality of federal agents in our streets is beneath the call of law enforcement to keep everyone in our country safe, ” said Jaime Martinez, Frontline DIGNITY Executive Director. “When we can’t rely on our government to treat us all with respect, it’s up to us as good neighbors to stand watch and demand accountability.
Frontline DIGNITY’s “Dignity in Action” rapid response program trains volunteers across the country to act as ethical witnesses during immigration enforcement activity, ensuring that families are treated humanely and that their human rights are respected. Community members interested in learning how to participate safely and effectively in rapid response efforts can register to join Frontline DIGNITY’s upcoming trainings. Details will be shared with registrants as the schedule and venue are finalized.
“The fight for dignity has arrived on our streets. Our community must unequivocally condemn these actions and stand for dignity,” said Martinez. “The call has never been more urgent.”
